Exploring Bangkok
Covering 61 acres (24 hectares) in the heart of Bangkok, the Grand Palace was created as the religious and administrative center of the Kingdom. Within the complex is the Temple of the Emerald Buddha with many sacred religious buildings including a sanctuary housing the famous Emerald Buddha, the most sacred image in the Kingdom. The Palace also served as the home of the Chakri monarchs (Kings of the Bangkok period) until the beginning of the 20th century.
