Exploring Addu Atoll
Comprising seven inhabited and about 20 uninhabited islands, Addu Atoll extends the islands of the Maldives across the Equator and into the southern hemisphere.  The heart-shaped atoll is about 18 kilometres wide and 15 kilometres long and has some of the biggest islands in the Maldives, and a stunning coral reef formation that is the largest in the country.  Addu Atoll’s western side consists of mostly larger islands, which are connected by causeways, making this the largest landmass in the country and the only other region of the Maldives other than Malé to have road traffic.  Unspoiled Maldivian villages and local coffee shops along this 17-kilometre route provide an authentic setting in which to explore the fascinating lifestyle and culture of the real Maldives.
